The american Journey: Losing sight of reality by: Emily Rollend
The American Journey, or having an American Dream, can cause people to lose sight of reality and believe that material things are what shows you are successful. We live in a society where our youth thinks that things should be handed to them on a silver platter, and it's giving us false hope for things in the future, if you're not willing to work for the things you want. The American Dream is achievable to those who work for it, and sometimes while trying our hardest to obtain it, or not trying at all, we lose sight of reality and have false hope.
The amazing thing about our country is that it brings us all together with different aspects, including the American Dream. We all have different views of the American Dream, but most are relatively the same including a family, being successful with a lot of money, and owning material things.
The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald also connects back to my thesis. In The Great Gatsby, Gatsby lost sight of reality and was living in the past, and therefore didn't reach his own, personal American Dream. Gatsby also had false hope that he would end up with Daisy in the end. My topic is about losing sight of reality, having false hope, and if you can reach your Dreams, so this novel correlates perfectly, as shown in my Analysis of Gatsby.
This website will go through different genres of presentation showing different aspects of the American Dream, touching on how it makes people lose sight of reality and have false hope.
